Tonight, @GlasgowCC Glasgow City Council left a mother and her 4 month old baby without emergency accommodation.

Homeless Project Scotland stepped in and paid £370 for a last minute hotel room because no baby should ever be left without a safe place to sleep.

A baby’s safety should never be an afterthought. Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 must do better.

While many of us head home to warmth and safety, the reality for far too many people in Glasgow is very different. Every person you see here has a story, a past, and deserves a future where sleeping on the streets is never their only option.

Our volunteers will continue to stand beside those who have nowhere else to turn, but charities should not have to carry this responsibility alone. It is time for those with the power to act to ensure that no one is left without emergency accommodation.

🚨 GLASGOW'S HOMELESSNESS CRISIS CAN'T WAIT

Every night, people are being left with nowhere safe to sleep while Homeless Project Scotland continues to work tirelessly to prevent rough sleeping.

We are asking Glasgow's elected members to step up, provide leadership, and ensure that council homelessness policies are being followed and that nobody who is entitled to emergency accommodation is left sleeping on the streets.

We are calling on Councillor @AllanCasey89 Glasgow's Homelessness Convener, to work with Homeless Project Scotland and ensure officers are held accountable where people are not being accommodated.

The situation is getting worse by the hour.

Gary has just given another update from our Night Shelter. We have now run out of emergency sleep pods, and more than 50 people experiencing homelessness have come to us tonight seeking safety.

Our volunteers will do everything they can, but we cannot solve this crisis alone.

We need the people of Glasgow to stand with us. Please share this, speak up, and ask your elected representatives to act.

Living with arthritis, COPD and PTSD.

Yet tonight, he has been left to sleep on the streets of Glasgow because no emergency accommodation was provided.

No one who has served their country, reached retirement age, or is living with serious health conditions should be left without a safe place to sleep.

This is more than a housing issue. It is a question of dignity, compassion and responsibility.

@GlasgowCC Glasgow City Council must urgently explain how this is acceptable and take immediate action to ensure our most vulnerable citizens are not left on the streets.

There is an old saying: “If you build it, they will come.”

We were disappointed to hear a council officer use this phrase in relation to Homeless Project Scotland. We believe it is dismissive and derogatory towards the work of our volunteers and, more importantly, towards the people who turn to us in their hour of need.

The reality is simple. Councils have funded and established many services over the years that have not seen the same level of engagement. If people continue to come to Homeless Project Scotland, perhaps it says something positive about the compassion, dignity and support they receive from our volunteers.

People don’t come to us because they want to be homeless. They come because they have nowhere else to turn.

Rather than criticising the service we provide, we would welcome the council working alongside us. Together, we can ensure fewer people are left sleeping rough and more people receive the support they deserve.

It’s time to stop hindering those who are helping and start respecting the work being done by volunteers every single day for the people of Glasgow.

Despite repeated calls for action, more people are being left with no option but to sleep outside. Every tent represents a person who should have been offered safety, dignity and somewhere warm to stay.

The numbers continue to grow, and so does the humanitarian crisis unfolding on the streets of Glasgow.

This cannot become the new normal.

We once again call on @glasgowcc Glasgow City Council and @scotgov @ScotGovFM to take urgent action. No one should be forced to sleep in a tent because emergency accommodation isn’t available.

The time for words has passed. Scotland needs action.

Last night , we interviewed a man who has been left to sleep in a tent in the pouring rain after being told there was no accommodation available by @glasgowcitycc Glasgow City Council.

No one should have to call a wet tent home. No one should be left outside while the rain pours down.

This is the reality our volunteers witness night after night. We hear the stories, we see the suffering, and we refuse to stay silent.

These vans are a lifeline. Every single day they:

🚐 Collect surplus food that would otherwise go to waste.
🍲 Deliver food to people experiencing homelessness and hardship.
🏠 Help furnish homes for people moving on from homelessness.
🤝 Transport vulnerable people to emergency accommodation, appointments and essential support services across Scotland.

Without these vehicles, much of our frontline work would simply stop.
