March 8 is International Women's Day - a global day to celebrate the powerful women around us and advance gender equality.
The 2023 theme, #EmbraceEquity, urges us to discuss why equal opportunities are not enough, and that inclusion and belonging require equitable action.
Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning on Friday, March 3. As a result of the inclement weather:
- All schools and administrative buildings will close at 7:00 p.m. on March 3
- All weekend permits are cancelled for Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5
Remembrance Day marks the end of the First World War in 1918, and traditionally involves a pause in our day for silent reflection at the 11th hour of the 11th day in the 11th month.
For each of us, the day is a time of reflection.
Today, HWDSB joins workplaces across Canada to mark National Custodial Workers Day.
As the pandemic further underlined, keeping our schools clean and well-maintained is essential. Thank you all for helping create the foundation of positive learning and working spaces!
On September 30, we wear orange to honour Phyllis Webstad, who had her orange shirt taken away on her first day at the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) Residential School in British Columbia.

On Administrative Professionals' Day, we thank the skilled, knowledgeable, and welcoming individuals who help HWDSB support all students and staff! Your hard work is noticed and valued, especially during these obstacle-filled school years 💙
At HWDSB, we want to ask you how you feel about your school building.
Schools are not only places for learning, but also living spaces where you, your teachers and school staff spend many hours every day.

In 1995, the House of Commons officially recognized February as Black History Month in Canada. The motion was introduced by the first Black Canadian woman elected to Parliament, the Honorable Jean Augustine. HWDSB is proud to help continue the tradition as we begin the new month.
Today is #BellLetsTalk Day, which encourages Canadians to take action to create positive change in mental health.
We'll be using the day to spotlight HWDSB and community resources for students, staff and families. Be on the lookout for these posts and share them widely! 💙🧡
We also thank our caretaking staff for going to school today for several hours clearing the snow and getting reading for the return to in-person learning for our staff and students. Read more about snow-clearing: https://t.co/3NHZaambED
