This week’s Haiti Signal looks at the unanswered request before the Kenscoff attack, new election filing arrangements, the nutrition forecast for Cité Soleil and Cabaret, and food prices that kept rising in July.
Haiti’s operating map is changing.
The attack in Kenscoff has altered assumptions about movement and protection around the capital. Cap-Haïtien International Airport is handling roughly three times its previous passenger volume, increasing the North’s role in national travel and business continuity.
Nearly 200,000 people were forcibly returned to Haiti during the first eight months of 2026, creating pressures that will extend into local services, labor markets and receiving communities. Election preparations are also advancing across communes with sharply different levels of administrative access, mobility and institutional capacity.
Together, these developments show how people, responsibilities and economic activity are shifting toward places able to absorb them, often faster than infrastructure and institutions can adjust.
For organizations operating in Haiti, national plans increasingly require current, location-specific intelligence about the routes, communities and systems their work depends on.
The new issue of The Haiti Signal examines Haiti’s changing operating geography and what organizations should carry into September.

For organizations working in Haiti, the question is no longer only what has been announced. Never more so than now, what matters is what is actually being delivered, where implementation is failing, and who is being left out.
That is where research and strategy must now focus.

Kenscoff is a warning about the limits of planning around national announcements alone.
Dozens of people were killed, homes were burned, and families were displaced. Elections, return programs, investment, and public services all depend on whether people can move safely and institutions can reach communities.

I’ve tried voice assistants before, but the new ChatGPT voice feels different. It’s the first one that genuinely made me want to keep talking. I wrote down what I really think about it. https://t.co/mYrDkTHjGn
For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.
