Yesterday, firefighters began the operation of clearing up the specialist hose at the A31 incident.

We still have a presence at the scene, as we check for remaining hotspots.

Highways teams are working to replace the boundary fencing.

We are currently dealing with a large hay fire on Wallop Road, Grateley.

The road has been closed while we deal with this incident. Please avoid the area and keep surrounding roads clear to allow emergency vehicles access.

⚠️Firefighters have been tackling a field fire in Wootton St Lawrence near Basingstoke, this afternoon.

The fire is now out, and firefighters will remain at the scene damping down.

There may still be a smell of smoke in the area, so if affected please close doors and windows.

We are pleased that we are in a position to reduce the number of resources at the A31 fire.

Our teams continue to dampen down the area, checking for hotspots and preventing the flare ups, and we expect to remain on the scene for the next few days.

Update 12 for #A31 closure:

The road remains closed in both directions between #M27 J2 #Ower and #A338 #Ringwood following a fire which spread to heathland.

The road is expected to remain closed until at least 20/08/2026.

Hawley Lakes incident update:

Our firefighters remain on scene at this incident.

We ask that people avoid the area due to smoke and dust and to enable us to carry out our firefighting operations.

We expect to be on site for most of the day.

Once again firefighters have been working through the night at the scene of the New Forest wildfire, continuing to make good progress, but we still expect to be on scene for the next few days, with the A31 remaining closed.

Alongside other fire services, we have been using different techniques to support firefighting efforts.

This clip shows specialists backburning strips of heathland, in order to remove available fuels, helping prevent the blaze from spreading further.

Firefighters are currently tackling a large fire in woodland at Hawley Lakes, Blackwater.

As our teams continue to battle the New Forest wildfire, James Lucy who was incident commander today has provided an update:

Firefighters have a good hold of the perimeter of the fire, with progress being made to implement fire breaks, however changing wind conditions continue to prove challenging, so if residents are affected by smoke in their area, they are advised to close doors and windows.

Firefighters, with support of partners, continue to work hard to contain the New Forest (A31) fire & prevent spread

Road closures are expected to remain in place for at least the next 48 hours while emergency services continue to respond to this complex & ongoing incident
