A dangerous red line is crossed the Modi govt when the state distrusts its own citizen
Anyone can be asked to prove they belong
It distrusts even its own documents like Aadhar & passports
The state feels free to snatch anyone's citizenship at will

"This forces me to confront the possibility that it takes more than just bad people seizing power to destroy democracies. Perhaps democracies decay because ordinary, decent people keep finding reasons to excuse it."
The writer sums up d feeling of so many, including myself.
"The greatest challenge was not legal or technical. It was human. Behind every statistic was a child.
Our investigators were not simply analysing documents or verifying satellite images. They were repeatedly watching videos of children being killed, mutilated, stripped, tortured, and permanently disabled. Every case represented a life interrupted."
~ Justice S. Muralidhar, Chair of the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel

The most disturbing thing that’s happening is people whose names have been cut off from voter lists are being cut off from all welfare schemes. It’s being done in Bengal and will be followed by BJP regimes in Hindi belt. It has serious ramifications for many poor families besides Muslims. It’s not a communal war but a class/caste issue at many levels. And it’s not a war to begin with when the state and actors backed by it target minorities and socially/economic sections of society. Please be aware that discrimination just climbed another notch.
I had the great privilege of knowing this remarkable man in my student days, as my friend @harsh_mander’s father. His compassion, wisdom, humanity and grace shone through in even the slightest interaction. My Pranaams to Shri Har Mander Singh ji on his centenary.
Recalling the hanging of Ajmal Kasab
This is the second part of a five-part review of @harsh_mander 's Terror Crimes in India and the Judicial Conscience.

This beautiful heart-felt essay asks if you can remain friends with people you love but who carry so much irrational hate in their hearts for Muslims
He writes with sadness, not judgment
It could be the story of literally thousands of Indians in new India

Important that every Indian listens to findings of UN Commission led by Justice Muralidhar on Palestine
He describes deliberate targeting by Israel of Palestinian children, killing 20k, injuring 40k, rendering orphan 60k children
We can’t allow our govt to support this genocide
We celebrate any person of Indian origin who does anything in any part of the world. But have very little space in media when retired Judge S Muralidhar headed United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory releases such an important report. It is not about Justice Muralidhar, but about the fact that we care very little about things that really matter.
