Congratulations to Barrett Hazeltine, recipient of Sigma Xi’s 2026 Evan Ferguson Award! He was honored during a special retirement ceremony at Brown University on May 22. The annual award recognizes outstanding service to the Society and its mission.
For decades, Hazeltine led the Brown University chapter of Sigma Xi—one of the Society’s most active and impactful chapters, inducting hundreds of new members each year. As a member of the Brown faculty since 1959, Hazeltine has held several major leadership roles at the university, including dean of the college, dean of engineering, and provost. Throughout those roles, he became known as a champion for interdisciplinary education, innovation, and student mentorship.
