Speaking up takes courage. Imagine being 10 yrs old & bravely making a contribution to your 5th grade history class on the topic of slavery. Then imagine being shut down by your teacher. This incident happened to my daughter, Iris, earlier this school year. She wrote about it. 1/
A group of 111 OB-GYNs in Texas released a letter to elected state leaders Sunday urging them to change abortion laws they say have prevented them from providing lifesaving care to pregnant women.

@doclauravater I know lots of kick-ass single physician moms who do it all without a spouse to wash the dishes! A supportive spouse sounds like a luxury but not a prerequisite or sole predictor of career success—otherwise us single physician moms would be doomed!
So inspiring to meet the pediatrician-advocates who received scholarships to attend @AmerAcadPeds#AAPAdvocacy conference through the AAP Section on #GlobalHealth. Can’t wait to see how they flex their advocacy skills to advocate for children globally. @AAPGlobalHealth

@akriticallook Any medical specialty intersects with PH. I did my MPH and worked in public health sector before medical school and pediatrics residency. I now do public health, global health, and pediatrics in an academic medical center setting.
@MomPedBlog I do appreciate your willingness to learn and grow. We cannot and should not expect everyone to exhibit patience with us as we journey to confront our biases. Feel free to DM me, have some resources to share if you’re interested.
@MomPedBlog Emily, I didn’t see all the responses after my reply. This is an important lesson that impact is *more important* than intent. Your intentions are secondary when the impact was harm. Also important to refrain from centering yourself and your feelings as you learn this lesson.
@MomPedBlog This is the myth of the zero-sum game, which is an upholder of vvhite supremacy. Keep wrestling those thoughts away. (Suggested reading: The Sum of Us, by Heather McGee)
We become pediatricians because we are fiercely compassionate.
Not because it's easy.
Not because kids aren't sick.
But because they bring out the best in us as clinicians.

With my #tweetiatrician friend and role model Dr. @SabrinaKitaka! She inspires me to use all my pediatrician superpowers as a clinician, educator, researcher, advocate, and role model. #pediatrics
@BeenaDoc @RileyChildrens Thank you for sharing your voice here. “I will remember you and look for answers with you” amidst diagnostic uncertainty is such a supportive action from your son’s doctor.
