Before today’s regular meeting, the Council presented the @HipHopCaucus with a proclamation recognizing its work to preserve the legacy of Hurricane Katrina and its lasting impact on New Orleans.
The organization also leads the annual Hurricane Katrina March and Second Line.
Today, Councilmembers joined New Orleans Katrina Commemoration Inc. & @hiphopcaucus at a Katrina 21 press conference, honoring the people of New Orleans who fought to preserve our city, communities, and culture in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
We will never forget.⚜️
It was a pleasure joining the New Orleans Katrina Commemoration, Inc., @HipHopCaucus and other stakeholders from across Louisiana to commemorate the 21st Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. It represented a much needed time for remembrance of the lives lost, but also advocacy for further restoration and recovery efforts for New Orleans.
As a Member of Congress representing communities that lived this history, I remain committed to fighting for actions that will restore our coasts, and ensure further repair, assistance, and recovery efforts.
🗣️ Climate conversations don’t always have to start with fear - sometimes they start with laughter!
On @wpfwdc's #ClimateFridays I chatted with Jillian about her experience in @HipHopCaucus’ climate comedy workshop & how comedy can help engage w/ difficult topics in a new way.
It's #ClimateFriday, so you know what time it is! This week, we sat down with student and comedian Xavier Davis, who shared with us his experience at the @HipHopCaucus' Climate Comedy Workshop. 👏🏾
To all of New York’s legislators: our communities are not disposable. We need you to stand with us, the people, and not the petrochemical companies. Don't let their well-paid lobbyists speak louder than the health and futures of your constituents.
In Albany, Vote YES on The Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (S1464A Harckham/A1749A Glick)
If your vote didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be working this hard to make it harder to cast.
Right now, Congress is debating the SAVE Act, a bill that could put new proof of citizenship barriers between eligible voters and the ballot box. The playbook is clear: make voting harder, then call it “security.”
Fight the power.

Black people have carried the burden of music being stolen through the decades; the last thing we need is a not-real person trying to emulate the style.
Keep AI out of our communities. #SZA#AIInMusic

Black farmers already make up less than 1% of U.S. farmers and have faced generations of land loss, loan denials, and unequal access to resources.
Now their federal support is being cut.
Find out how you can support them.
