Most governments decided just to pay nice salaries to people instead of investing infrastructure.
Well I got a city just 5 mi from me that pays five Men a million dollars a year while every year over 200 water mains break....

This is a legitimate question that probably will extend beyond our lifetimes.
But it seems to me that there's probably quadrillions upon quadrillions of gold in the universe itself.
Not exactly something that should be coveted.
I think that musk will probably start mine in asteroids in the next 30 years.
Furthermore, it's not science fiction
I suspect that AI will help us learn how to transmute elements into our elements.

I'm saying your argument that gold is important is ridiculous
It's actually a good metal for electricity
And heat conduction
But beyond that, it's pretty worthless in terms of scarcity.
