In The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, the moment when Aragorn says “You bow to no one.” and kneels before the four hobbits is one of the film’s most iconic scenes. But this emotional tribute is quite different from how the event appears in Tolkien’s book.
In the book, the scene takes place at the Field of Cormallen, and only Frodo and Sam are present. When they approach, Aragorn rises to greet them, and to Sam’s complete astonishment, he kneels before them. Taking Frodo by his right hand and Sam by his left, he leads them to the throne and proclaims: “Praise them with great praise!”
A great host celebrates them with cheers and songs, and the moment remains different compared to the film’s grand, unified tribute to all four hobbits.
So, which one do you think is more emotional this scene in the film, or the one in the book?
