At the 114th International Labour Conference (#ILC2026) in Geneva, Switzerland, the Federation of Somali Trade Unions (@festusomalia) joined representatives of governments, employers' and workers' organisations from around the world in discussions on the future of work, social justice, labour rights and sustainable development.

Addressing the conference on behalf of the Somali labour movement, FESTU General Secretary @OmarFarukOsman emphasised that trade unions must remain at the centre of policy development and decision-making as artificial intelligence, digitalisation & economic transformation continue to reshape labour markets worldwide.

He stressed that technological progress must serve people and contribute to decent job creation, stronger social protection systems and greater respect for fundamental labour rights. He further underscored that workers and their representative organisations must be meaningfully involved in shaping the policies, reforms and economic decisions that affect their lives and livelihoods, reaffirming the principle of "𝑵𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝑼𝒔 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝑼𝒔".

Furthermore, the General Secretary also highlighted the importance of strong social dialogue and effective tripartism in ensuring that the benefits of economic and technological change are shared fairly and contribute to inclusive and sustainable development.
