Today I announced a hearing into the mass evictions and malpractice allegations in Western Addition apartments.
Over the last year, we have heard consistent complaints from tenants at MLK/Marcus Garvey Co-Op and Thomas Paine Square Apartments. Deteriorating building conditions and mold. Evictions of over a dozen long-term residents. Unauthorized entry and stolen property.
We will accordingly be calling forth Domus Management Company that oversees both properties to a hearing before the Board of Supervisor's Government Audit & Oversight Committee, as well as the boards of both housing complexes, legal service providers, and more.
This hearing is about accountability and solutions, and ensuring the voices of the Western Addition are heard. Thank you to Housing Rights Committee, Eviction Defense Collaborative, and Open Door Legal who have been helping residents through the years, and the tenants themselves for raising their voice and demanding justice.
We mobilized in Sacramento last Thursday and now AB 736 is dead! But ACA 22 is on the November ballot, making future taxes on the wealthy difficult to pass. The real estate industry will keep squeezing tenants, we will fight back. Down w/ ACA 22. Up w/ SF Homes Guarantee Act.
