#JoeBiden was a guest lecturer in 2018 for my seminar when I was teaching at @penn; #GeorgeWBush and I lectured each other on the campaign trail in 2000. I’ve known both for decades; logged a lot of time with both; been in touch with both recently.
This is Howard’s wife, Amy Nathan. I am heartbroken to share my brilliant and extraordinary husband passed away late last night surrounded by those he loved most, his family. He valiantly battled pancreatic cancer for 2 years. He couldn’t have been adored more. The world was a better place because he lived in it and wrote about it.
@MeetThePress clash between @kwelkernbc and @marcorubio was pathetic. He was trying to win the #Trump veepstakes jerkathon; she was trying to ask legitimate questions without losing control of the show. No, I'm not canonizing St. Timothy of Buffalo but this was a sad parody.
#TiKToker is now the only label you need to be what we used to think of as a reporter -- "The Columbia School of TikTokery...." The more "real" people hold themselves out to be reporters, the less "real" journalism seems at all.
#DavidTrone campaign in #MD becoming vaguely reminiscent of the Texas Gov John Connolly campaign in 1980: it was an expensive appliance that they'd forgotten to plug in.
via @NYTimes -- Nobody did a better job of naming the #Manafort gang than journo Jacob Weisberg decades ago: 'State of the Art Sleazeballs.' It's impossible to be sleazier than #Trump, but a manafort gave a try. He clammed up and Trump screwed him anyway! https://t.co/VS7YzqSJda
A young former #Trump staffer crying her eyes out on the witness stand, insisting through tears that he had not been treated "fairly," is risky for the prosecution. They need her testimony -- and it was fully corroborative. But it's tiptoeing on a thin rope over a steep canyon.
#Caesar and #Bonoparte were evil, but their savage egotism also encouraged them to create admirable works: laws, water systems, fiscal regulation, economic growth, language, art and more. They wanted the cultural approval of their societies. All #Trump wants is to be feared.
In Our Name: A Message from #Jewish Students at #Columbia University -- harrowingly evocative of the German campuses of the Thirties. https://t.co/6otQdxqJhP
Trump claims the payments to Michael Cohen was for legal fees
But Cohen was IN-HOUSE! He was the general counsel of the Trump Organization. He had a salary.
You don’t pay “fees” to your salaried in-house counsel.
One more reason Trump’s excuse is garbage.
Cable keeps toggling between #Gaza and #HushMoney trial as though they're two different stories. They're not. They're both the result of the ruthless, decades-long manipulations of #VladimirPutin: the stinking fruit of a poisonous tree of terrorists, hookers and bribery.
How much more of a revolutionary cosplayer do you have to be to forcefully occupy a building, create an artificial "blockade" against yourself, and then demand "humanitarian aid" to be allowed in after a mere 12 hours because you're concerned about starving and dehydrating "to death". The attempt to recreate a Gaza-lite environment on a college campus is demonstrative of the strange revolutionary fetishization of Gaza's horrendous suffering and the Palestinian issue by some of the protesting students. The unfolding debacle is the result of the SJPs deliberate disregard for effective messaging and saying they don't want to make their rhetoric palatable. Turning people against the just and urgent Palestinian aspirations for freedom and statehood is precisely what many pro-Palestine activists are currently doing, instead of seizing on a historical, once in a lifetime opportunity to reach mass audiences with favorable messaging and build broad alliances to achieve justice and lasting peace. Truly shameful squandering of public empathy for the Palestinian people.
After the paperback of my book came out in 2008 I decided it was sadly naive: the idea that substantive argument is how we save ourselves as a country. Now I've decided I was sadly ahead of my time. https://t.co/sIm64pASmr
Finally. We can put this “the ICJ ruled plausible genocide” bullshit to bed.
I’ve been arguing this for months, but in case you don’t believe me, here’s the actual President of the ICJ who delivered the ruling:
“It didn’t decide that the claim of genocide was plausible”.
The indefatigable Suzanne Craig of the @nytimes reports that #Trump is joining other average men and using the 15th floor men's room of the shabby Manhattan Courthouse. (He's required to.) Does anyone dare tell a #Pecker joke around the urinals?
Turns out that even #Pecker had his limits: buying and burying a porn star's story. When Pecker refused to do so -- and while the "grab 'em by the pussy" story was breaking -- Cohen had to step in as #Trump's bagman, advancing his own funds but also keeping careful records.
The 1968 #Dem convention was underway in #Chicago the week I arrived in London to study abroad. We were listening to Radio Free Europe that infamous night of shouting on the floor. RFE's reaction? THEY SHUT OFF THE BROADCAST! Eerie silence. What'll happen in Chicago this year?
