My fiancé @car0hare + I spent 2021 working with / encouraging / strategizing for each other.
(While raising a young king named Myles.)
@LinkedIn noticed our journey + put us in a global campaign!
My fave line: "dad life / work life / it's all life."
We are beyond grateful!
@fromoldharlem Oh, he just meant like - we couldn't do it as an album at the time. Mixtapes were popular, labels were confused, etc. And now, he can clear it as an album. And the family can make money with it, vs a mixtape which has zero profits to be made.
I had the honor of deejaying the release party for DILLAGENCE 2.
And this magic moment happened. 🍩
I’m not really a “want my flowers” kinda guy, as I really think my success is moreso a formula of talent meets opportunity.
That said - I appreciate @BustaRhymes for sharing the story of how we created this concept back in the day and how it still continues to live on today.
My creative friends: sometimes all it takes is a bold ask.
Of course, you need the skill to back it up. And the vision to see it thru.
But without the ASK, it may NEVER happen.
Let me tell you my Busta + Dilla story. ⤵️

Before streaming, every single came with a B-side - the song the artist actually wanted to make. There's a lesson in that for every creative, in every field.

JA-Z once said “Nobody’s built like you - you design yourself.” And he was right.
So I thought it would be fun to dig a little deeper into that.
Introducing Lab Notes - a special edition of my Creative Exercise newsletter.
I have spent 20+ years watching how creative people move - on stage, in DJ booths, in boardrooms.
Lab Notes is where I break that down in more detail.
Whether you’re a JAŸ-Z fan, a marketing aficionado or just part of the culture, I’d love for you to read it.
