Andrew Powell KC took to the stage at the International Bar Association Conference in Copenhagen, speaking on the panel “LGBTQI+ Families and Parenthood: Rights, Risks and Recognition.”

The panel explored some of the legal challenges LGBTQI+ families can face when becoming parents, including international approaches to surrogacy, the rights of the “second parent”, and the different ways in which jurisdictions recognise and protect LGBTQI+ families.

Andrew joined fellow panellists Professor Marta Cenini, Brett McGrath and Rich Harris for a discussion that highlighted the differing approaches across jurisdictions and the complex issues that can arise when families cross borders. The session was chaired by Rosie Schumm.
