Prof. (Dr.) Gobardhan Das, Member, NITI Aayog, met Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, Department of Health Research and Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), along with senior officials and scientists from both institutions, to discuss key priorities for strengthening India's health research ecosystem.

The discussions focused on key initiatives of the Department of Health Research and ICMR, including research on tuberculosis, malaria, diabetes, and cancer. Prof. Das emphasised the need to strengthen research-to-clinic linkages, develop national research repositories that translate into products, promote indigenous research, and foster greater collaboration between basic and clinical scientists to build a self-reliant health research ecosystem for Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Strengthening India's disease surveillance ecosystem for a healthier and more resilient future.

Union Health Secretary Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava today launched the Intermediate Field Epidemiology Training Programme (I-FETP), an initiative through @NCDCMoHFW, to build a highly skilled field epidemiology workforce by training 250 State & District Surveillance Officers through 14 premier medical and public health institutions.

The programme will enhance capacities in disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, public health data analysis and surveillance system evaluation, further strengthening India's public health emergency preparedness and response.

The Operational Guidelines for Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) Surveillance were also released to promote standardized surveillance practices across the country.
