Becerra said he had not seen those specific numbers, but said California must restore investments in arts, culture, music and science programs so children, especially those from disadvantaged families, can explore beyond traditional classroom instruction.

IECN asked Becerra about California’s per capita arts funding, citing figures that place the state at about 80 cents per person and 35th nationally, compared with states such as Florida at about $2 per capita.

🗳️🚫Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 73 by Sen. Sabrina Cervantes, D-Riverside, on May 27, putting new California election protections in place immediately ahead of the June 2 statewide primary.
SB 73 also makes it a felony to remove voted ballots from a county registrar’s custody after election certification, a provision supporters say responds directly to Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco’s seizure of more than 600K ballots tied to the 2025 Prop 50 special election.

🏘️ Rialto Mayor Joe Baca Sr. has been appointed chair of the San Bernardino Regional Housing Trust as cities across the county face growing pressure to meet state housing requirements and unlock critical affordable housing funding.
The Housing Trust supports affordable housing for low- and moderate-income residents and people experiencing homelessness, but Baca said cities need shovel-ready projects to compete for state and federal dollars.
The ROV’s roadshows feature stations that walk voters through every step of the process, from registration and ballot casting to updating personal information and tracking ballots; in English and Spanish.
