Competitiveness, operational efficiency and market access of Agricultural Micro and Small Enterprises (AgriMSEs) in Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago. 🌎

🙌 IICA introduced the AgriMSE Business Development and Regional Market Integration Project, funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

👉While the initiative is being implemented through three specialized consultancy streams designed to deliver targeted technical support to participating enterprises, IICA will ensure team integration and coordination and provide technical backstopping, stakeholder outreach and engagement support.

🤝These consultancy streams include EconoTech Ltd., leading on AgriMSEs business and production operational efficiencies for scale-up and market access, Jai Rampersad, leading on intra-regional marketing and export facilitation, and GBest Consulting, leading on AgriMSE credit worthiness, readiness and financing accessibility.

These workstreams are expected to improve enterprise performance, enhance export readiness and facilitate greater access to financing and investment opportunities for AgriMSEs in the participating countries.💪

🤝🌎 IICA Director General Muhammad Ibrahim and Dr. J. Scott Angle, Senior Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS), signed a five-year cooperation agreement.

This expands research capacities, technical coordination, and knowledge transfer between academic institutions and IICA’s 34 member states, with a direct impact on farmers, ranchers, and consumers.

Progress of the project “From Turrialba to the Table”. 🙌

🤝The IICA and the CRUSA Foundation presented the results of this initiative aimed at strengthening the productive chain of the Turrialba Cheese with Denomination of Origin, the only cheese in Costa Rica and the rest of Central America with this distinction. 🧀

Through personalized improvement plans, 18 farms reached compliance levels equal to or greater than 80% and 6 exceeded the initially established targets, supported by an investment of more than USD 80,000 in productive infrastructure, environmental management and operational improvements.

🌱 Virtual Seminar | SHEP Approach
A new paradigm for market-oriented family farming
IICA and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) invite you to the Seminar on the Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment & Promotion (SHEP) Approach, an agricultural extension methodology that enables smallholder farmers to become independent managers, strengthen decision-making, and engage effectively with markets.

📈 Originally developed in Kenya through technical cooperation with JICA, the SHEP approach has shown average income increases of over 70% within two years and is currently implemented in more than 60 countries worldwide.

Key topics include:
– Current challenges facing family farming
– Core principles and implementation stages of the SHEP approach
– Case studies from Latin America
– Panel discussion with international organizations, academia, and financial institutions
