I am deeply saddened to learn that the three #seafarers initially reported missing in the attack on the MT Settebello, are now confirmed dead. My heartfelt condolences go out to their families. This is a tragic loss for the maritime community. https://t.co/CrLEB4kDWR
Good discussion with Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, State Secretary of Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the margins of the Oslo Forum. We talked about #maritimesecurity, particularly the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and its implications for global shipping.
I strongly condemn any act from any party that endangers the lives of #seafarers and the safety of international shipping. This is simply unacceptable. Read my full statement following the recent attack off the coast of Oman. https://t.co/AOnxnKnEwl
"No commercial justification for risking seafarers' lives." The Strait of Hormuz remains highly volatile, with no safe passage currently available.

I urge nations to turn ocean commitments into action.

In the Cook Islands for a busy maritime programme. Pleased to open the Asian Shipowners’ Association Forum & speak on “Shipping in the Age of Geopolitics.” Key discussions with Minister of Foreign Affairs Tingika Elikana & other officials on maritime resilience and connectivity.
Grateful to @MaritimeNZ for the meeting during my layover in Auckland. Conversation ranged from the situation in the Middle East and #IMO actions to address it, to our current work on how the ISPS Code could assist in tackling increased illegal activities in int’l shipping.
IMO has adopted the first-ever MASS Code — a global framework for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships. A milestone that puts IMO at the forefront of regulating emerging technologies, enabling innovation while keeping safety, accountability and the human element central to shipping.

Fruitful discussions with @IMOSecGen Arsenio Dominguez. We focused on the maritime challenge in the Strait of Hormuz, the importance of adherence to International law, and respect for the sovereignty of territorial waters. There is an urgent need to advance a humanitarian initiative to free ships in the Gulf, in safety and in cooperation with the littoral states.
Un placer participar en la apertura de la Convención Marítima de las Américas @MaritimeConv, que reúne a líderes del sector marítimo, logístico y portuario para fortalecer la cooperación regional.
Impressed by Energy Observer 1, the first vessel to sail around the world using a 100% renewable energy mix. These pioneering projects support #decarbonization in maritime and show the potential ways forward. #Shipping
