🌱 #TermOfTheWeek: Seed
In plant health, a seed is meant for planting; if for processing or consumption, it's grain (ISPM 5).
Seeds can spread pests across borders; ISPM 38 helps manage this 🔗 https://t.co/fzB2plzQKA

The #IPPC will be at the Second FAO Global Exhibition: From Seeds to Foods, 8-12 October 2026, at Circo Massimo, Rome 🇮🇹
Plant pests can travel through seeds, packaging and traded goods. International phytosanitary standards help manage these risks, protecting plant health, food security and safe trade.

🌱 Every effective phytosanitary decision starts with understanding risk.
This week in Yokohama 🇯🇵, an #IPPC Expert Working Group, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan @MAFF_JAPAN , is advancing the revision of the Pest Risk Analysis (#PRA) standard.
🪰 PRA helps countries determine whether an organism is a pest, if it should be regulated, and which phytosanitary measures are needed.
🤝 A clearer, more integrated standard will support consistent implementation worldwide, strengthening #PlantHealth, food security, environmental protection and safe trade.

🌱 Up to 40% of global crop production is lost to plant pests every year.
On #FLWDay, let's remember that reducing food loss starts with protecting plant health. Through international standards, pest surveillance, early detection, and #ePhyto, #IPPC helps safeguard crops and support safer trade worldwide.
Protecting plants means protecting food. 🌾
