Above the action, beneath the roof.
A flyover inside the ITER Assembly Hall offers a rare view over the massive overhead cranes and down into the Tokamak pit, where the machine is taking shape.

The fourth of 93 bellows has been installed in the Tokamak Building. Tack welding is now underway.
Bellows accommodate thermal expansion and mechanical loads during machine operation, connecting the cryostat to the building.

The ITER Vacuum Vessel is coming together

Europe will soon deliver the last of its 5 sectors.

The rest are in ITER, moving through an assembly of pure precision and heavy lifting.

Let’s follow them through the journey from factory to tokamak pit 👇

The sixth vacuum vessel sector is in position in the ITER tokamak pit, bringing two-thirds of the plasma chamber into place. Touchdown came after 29.5 hours—six hours faster than the previous sector. Every operation builds the machine and the team’s expertise #ITER #FusionEnergy

6 of 9. Almost in place.
The operation began at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, 27 July, mobilizing close to 100 ITER staff members and contractors across two shifts. Once it lands, two-thirds of the ITER plasma chamber will be in place. #ITER #FusionEnergy #Tokamak #Engineering

A landmark moment at #ITER! The final module of the central solenoid was added to complete the stack. This powerful magnet, the beating heart of ITER, will induce the plasma current needed to initiate & help control the fusion reaction inside the tokamak.

One of the largest and most expensive science projects in history is being built in France. See photos of the experiment, whose goal is to prove the feasibility of nuclear fusion as a large-scale and carbon-free source of energy. Via @TheAtlPhoto: https://t.co/lWq4CifFJP

The last piece of ITER’s central solenoid is now in position.
Module 6 has been lifted into place, completing the full stack of the magnet that will help drive plasma current inside the tokamak.
A quiet-looking lift — but a huge moment for fusion engineering.
