36 hours. 5 sectors in the pit. 200° of the tokamak in place.
Another ITER vacuum vessel sector has completed its journey from the Assembly Hall to the Tokamak Building.

In the air!
The lift of sector module #4 is underway. When it lands tomorrow, it will become the fifth of nine sectors to be successfully transferred into the #tokamak pit—meaning more than half of #ITER’s plasma chamber will be in place.
Stay tuned!

ITER marked the start of operations at its MCTF — building knowledge, infrastructure, and operating experience for the wider fusion ecosystem. After the first coil cooldown to 4 K, the facility will support magnet testing ahead of installation. https://t.co/QIjg8QLdRb
The first 440 t #vacuum vessel sector was successfully landed on its gravity support in the #ITER#tokamak. This first-of-a-kind operation means the load of vacuum vessel sector #6 was “decoupled” from its temporary supports, the central column and bioshield wall.
Cooldown has started this week on the #magnet cold test facility at #ITER. Toroidal field coil #07 is the first magnet to be tested. Already locked in the #cryostat, it will reach the temperature of 4 Kelvin (-269 degrees Celsius) in ten days. Then performance tests can start.
At ITER, global leaders gather for the Public-Private Fusion Workshop.
DG Pietro Barabaschi: “You need both cooperation & competition.”
Fusion is moving from possibility to necessity.

A sustainable future needs more than ambition—it needs solutions at scale.
Fusion energy is one of them.
This Earth Day, we continue the work.

Big win for fusion: the French Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection cleared the ITER Organization vacuum vessel from pressure rules—recognizing EM forces, not pressure, drive its design.
Step toward fit-for-purpose fusion regulation

Bellows installation is underway at ITER with first welds complete in the Tokamak Building.
A custom installation trolley by Larsen & Toubro (with Tata Consultancy Services) is en route—ready to help the machine “breathe” and adapt to movement.
Progress update: Our Godzilla robotic platform is now testing alignment, insertion & load transfer with first prototype components installed.
A key step toward validating remote handling systems for ITER
MEPs from the Industry, Research & Energy Committee visited ITER (1 April) to discuss fusion’s role in Europe’s long-term energy strategy. DG Barabaschi highlighted ITER as a benchmark project and workforce hub, while F4E noted €7.2B invested in the EU supply chain (2007–2025)
First interface panel installed
ITER’s Trial, Test & Training Facility is gearing up for full-scale practice—training teams for complex in-vessel assembly before real operations begin.
Safer, faster, smarter

World leaders at the #NuclearEnergySummit2026 in Paris praised ITER’s contributions. President Macron honored the women and men behind the project and reaffirmed France’s support. Ursula von der Leyen and Andrej Plenković also stressed ITER’s key role in advancing fusion research
ITER teams are linking the tokamak’s 18 toroidal field coils into a single structure engineered to withstand enormous electromagnetic forces. Working with millimetre precision, each connection helps build the magnetic system that will confine the plasma.
The program for the 15th ITER International School is now online — and pre-registration is open!
Held in Chengdu, China (20–24 July 2026), this year’s School by ITER will focus on heating & current drive systems and the physics behind plasma control in fusion devices.
Registration for ITER Open Doors opens on Monday, March 2 at 10:00 CET! Don’t miss your chance to step inside one of the world’s most ambitious scientific projects and discover the future of fusion energy.
Secure your spot as soon as registration goes live! #iter#opendoors
