True Story:
A few years ago, my church was teaching the Sunday school kids how to hear from God. Not audibly, but if we listen carefully, we can hear His still, small, voice. (Some of you might call this a “Gut feeling”).
Soon afterward, a mom from church was running errands. She had her 2 kids in the car. Her daughter was in the front seat (and as females do, they were talking. A lot ).
Her 6-year-old son was sitting in the back.
They were stuck at a long Phoenix light. The cars trailed back so far, they couldn’t see the beginning.
Suddenly, her young son spoke from the back seat, “Mom, please be quiet. I’m trying to hear Jesus.”
The mom, who was slightly taken aback (perhaps even a bit annoyed) lowered her voice, then continued chatting with her daughter.
Again, her son spoke from the back seat: “Mom. Please stop talking. I’m trying to hear Jesus!”
The mom and daughter looked at each other, smiled, and, for a moment, got very quiet.
Then, her son broke the silence: “Mom! Jesus said, ‘There’s a man at the next light who is praying right now. He’s really tired, hungry, and thirsty.’” Then her son added, “Jesus said to help him.”
The mom explained that, as far as she could see, there was no man at the light.
However, as their car slowly inched forward, they saw him.
Excited, he yelled from the back seat, “There he is, mom! There’s the man! Jesus said to help him. He said, the man is praying, because he’s tired, hungry, and thirsty.”
As their car moved closer, the mom rolled down the window, reached in her purse, and handed him her cash.
The exhausted man smiled widely and told her, “Thank you! You have no idea what it’s like out here. I was just praying, because I’m so tired, hungry, and thirsty.”
The boy yelled back, “Jesus heard you! He heard you!”
