When religious identity becomes a test for earning a livelihood, the consequences extend beyond one festival.

Small traders lose customers. Workers risk losing income. Communities become more segregated. Distrust replaces everyday economic cooperation.

The constitutional promise of India is equal citizenship, not an economy divided by religion.

Will the Maharashtra government clarify its position?

@NiteshNRane is a minister in Maharashtra’s government. His reported call to exclude Muslim vendors from the Nashik Kumbh Mela raises questions that deserve clear answers:

Will vendor selection be based on transparent, lawful criteria?
Will religious discrimination in publicly regulated trading spaces be prevented?
Will the government protect the livelihoods and safety of all eligible vendors?

Articles 14, 15 and 19(1)(g) establish important constitutional safeguards. The government must clarify how these principles will be upheld.

1949 in Ayodhya remains a reminder of how decisions involving faith can leave a lasting political legacy. The government’s action in Basheerbagh deserves appreciation.

Not the first time a Congress government has tried to remove an idol of Shri Ram.

In 1949, after the appearance of Ram Lalla’s idol in Ayodhya, PM Nehru pressured Congress-led Uttar Pradesh government to have it removed.

Today Congress has disappeared in Uttar Pradesh.

ECI Declares ECINet Software a “Commercial Confidence” Matter, Raising Serious Questions About Transparency in SIR

In response to an RTI application, the ECI stated that information related to the software is exempt from disclosure as it involves commercial confidence, trade secrets and intellectual property matters. However, it also stated that no new software has been developed or procured for the SIR exercise.

The RTI application was filed by M.A. Mujeeb Ayyub, a social activist based in Karimnagar, Telangana.

MHA declares information on High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes “Confidential”!

In response to an RTI application, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has refused to disclose copies of the proposal, file notings, approvals and other documents relating to the constitution and appointment of the High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes, stating that the information has been classified as CONFIDENTIAL and is exempt from disclosure under Section 8(1)(a) of the RTI Act, 2005.

The section 8(1)(a) of the RTI Act, 2005, exempts information that would harm India’s sovereignty, security, strategic or economic interests, or foreign relations, or incite the commission of an offence.

The RTI application was filed by social activist @SQMasood.
