@ukfuturehealth Travelled 1.5 hours for this. The nurse didn't show. Boots manager came by after 30 mins: "it's a locum. Typically if they are this late they aren't going to show". Is this how you treat study participants?
@Leon_Schreib I applied for a 2nd passport at DHA Std bank as I travel a lot. The DHA system charged me R1800 instead of R600. DHA admit that this was incorrect and they are "asking the software developers to work on a fix" but in the meantime they advise not to apply at a bank!
I'm puzzled. How can you tell a client that you know that you overcharged by a factor of 3 but decline to do a reimbursement because "it's one reference number"? How is that at answer?
@martinwittenbe1 Martin Wittenberg passed away this evening after a long fight with cancer. He will be remembered as an outstanding lecturer, mentor and colleague who was unwavering in his commitment to rigour and academic debate. His extraordinary contribution to expanding access to high quality datasets and world class training at @DataFirstAtUCT and @SALDRU1 will be an enduring legacy.
Where should I submit my development economics paper?

@RGisselquist making the point that local ownership and domestic political coalitions are needed for aid effectiveness in conflicted affected countries, but hard to achieve #devXroads

In the 90s, women were less likely to negotiate their salaries than men. Today, they're more likely to ask... but still get fewer raises.
The solution is not to encourage women to advocate for themselves. It’s to change the stereotypes and systems that are biased against them.
Listening to a superb lecture by Sir Angus Deaton. "There are economists whose results cannot be predicted from their political convictions, but sometimes they seem to be too few" #FrancisWilsonMemorial

It is worth knowing that the median income person in WENAO is at the 90th global percentile; and the median income person in the US is at the 93rd global percentile. The world is much poorer than it seems to many.
I don't have words that can do justice to my colleague... to my friend...Jorge Aguero @taitarasu, but maybe all of us together, we can get close. He brightened so many of our lives.
Heartbreaking news - Jorge Aguero @taitarasu passed away today at the age of 51. He did amazing work on discrimination, IPV and child outcomes. He was kind, inspirational and bloody funny. Condolences to his soulmate Michele and son Gabe. He was so very proud of you both.
