Five years ago today we held our kick-off meeting in Belfast!
Since then we have built great working relationships & achieved a lot of work in the plant variety testing sector

Do you think wheat varieties are all the same?
In three years of field trials, in 15 locations, the project collected phenotypic, phenomic, and genomic data to improve the efficacy and accuracy of European crop variety testing and decision-making systems

We're teaming up with our sister project @INVITE_eu for a two-part conference on plant variety innovations!
📅Part 1: Innovations in Wheat - Nov 28, 2024 (Hybrid event in Brussels)
📅Part 2: Innovations in Other Crops - Dec 10, 2024

We ran harmonised VCU trials in different European locations for three cropping seasons, and collected data on crop and the field environment

Are you looking for a tool to support your wheat variety choice? InnoVar is working on its development, stay tuned for more!

Which is the best variety for my conditions? The InnoVar project tested durum and bread wheat varieties in 84 trials across 15 locations. Have a look at the available results on our website: https://t.co/bqVBzuvI7G

InnoVar partners including @Unibo are merging phenomics and GWAS data from DUS durum and bread wheat varietal protocols.
We aim to predict traits using molecular markers and growth stage vegetation indexes to explore synergies between genomics and phenomics approach.
The InnoVar durum wheat panel is being characterised by @UNIBO for yield related traits such as grain number per spikelet.
GNIA2 QTL was identified, KASP® markers were developed to detect varieties with favorable allelic profile linked to the increased grains per spikelet trait
Soil-Borne-Cereal-Mosaic-Virus (SBCMV) resistance in InnoVar durum wheat panel was characterized by @UNIBO. KASP® markers tagging informative haplotypes were designed, representing a source for VCU variety evaluation to test for resistant/susceptibility of varieties to SBCMV
InnoVar partners @Unibo explored genetic diversity of the durum wheat InnoVar panel by haplotype analysis. Patterns of haplotypes across chromosomes will help to detect genetic similarities and differences between varieties.
Over the last 4.5 years we have coordinated 84 field trials in bread wheat and durum wheat across 15 locations.
These trials were managed with a harmonised protocol designed by project partners
Using wheat as a test crop, InnoVar's goal is to devise and demonstrate improved, efficient methods of:
• integrating new science into DUS and VCU testing processes,
• combining DUS and VCU characters, and
• incorporating variety information into decision-making on-farm.
Twelve weeks to go until our stakeholder event in Brussels!
