Here it is! A reel of how we want 2 bring real, exciting scientific investigation, experimentation & discovery 2 the public while getting them involved! W/ @UF @TayKatBat @Nick_H_Engineer @dacia92 this was created for a grant application & modified to protect grant ideas #science
So I was too late making a decision on chasing to get to this one so I tried the system further south. It never organized. I learned a lesson- when your gut tells you to chase, you chase.
A public information statement was issued earlier today discussing detailed findings from the NWS Tampa damage survey for the tornado impacts in Pasco County on Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2026. #flwx#tornado
Receding glaciers in Alaska are leaving behind destabilized cliff faces that can cause massive tsunami waves — this is not theoretical. The last one just happened in 2025 and resulted in the second biggest tsunami wave ever recorded by scientists.
I was on a ship in Tracy Arm, in this exact location, in September 2024.
“This is how it happened: On August 10, at 5:30 in the morning, an entire mountainside at the mouth of the receding South Sawyer glacier detached, falling into the ocean and producing a monster wave. At its peak, the wave raced up over 1,500 feet on the opposing wall of the fjord — a height taller than Kuala Lumpur’s twin Petronas towers.”
This is incredibly scary, considering the lack of environmental observations we have throughout these areas in Alaska AND the large volume of tourists that sail through them on cruise ships. With sparse data, we can’t even begin to think about forecasting these events, which seem to be increasing in frequency as much as ~10-fold in recent decades.

👏👏👏 great job @tlynnr85 ! For those who may not know, we have a comic book series called Seekers of Science and have given out over 1 million copies worldwide, everything up to this point has been out-of-pocket, so we are trying a GoFundMe for the next issue
