Recently abd¥cted retired army general d+es of hypertension in bandits’ captivity
Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information at Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, has d+ed while in the custody of bandits, the Katsina State Government has confirmed.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Muazu, the government said the retired military officer d+ed from complications related to diabetes and hypertension during his captivity.
His de@th comes days after a viral video surfaced showing the retired general and his abd¥cted wife appealing to the Katsina State Government to meet the k+dnappers demands to secure their release.
Describing the incident as a tragic loss, the state government said extensive efforts by security agencies and the government to rescue him were unsuccessful.
“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the General’s de@th while in bandits’ captivity. Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the State Government and various security agencies to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy,” the statement read.
The government noted that the late general’s abd¥ction and de@th represent a significant loss to his family, Katsina State, and Nigeria.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda extended condolences to the deceased’s family and described the incident as a p@inful reminder of the growing security challenges facing the country.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration and a more coordinated response against criminal groups threatening peace and security across communities.
England’s World Cup Boots and Training Equipments Stolen in Kansas City, USA
England’s World Cup preparations have been rocked by a security breach after several match boots and training equipment were stolen before the team’s first training session in Kansas City.
The theft reportedly occurred while equipment was being transported from England’s pre-tournament base in Florida to their training camp at Swope Soccer Village in Missouri. Among the missing items were boots belonging to some of England’s star players, as well as official tournament balls and other training gear.
Kansas City police have launched an investigation into the incident and confirmed that two suspects have been taken into custody.
“Two subjects of interest were taken into custody pending further investigation,” a police spokesperson told The Guardian.
Despite the setback, manager Thomas Tuchel’s squad is scheduled to hold its first training session at the Kansas City base on Saturday. The Football Association declined to comment on the matter but is expected to work closely with local authorities in an effort to recover the stolen equipment.
The incident comes just days before England’s opening Group L clash against Croatia in Dallas on Wednesday, creating an unexpected distraction for a team aiming to end a 60-year wait for major international silverware.
T+rrorists Fleeing Northern Military Crackdown Now Moving South — Security Sources Warn
Security and intelligence sources have raised concerns over the movement of t+rrorists from northern Nigeria into parts of the South-East and South-South, following sustained military operations in Zamfara and Sokoto states.
According to multiple security officials, including intelligence operatives and a retired military officer, many insurgents displaced by ongoing offensives are abandoning their strongholds and exploiting vast forest networks and river routes to relocate southward.
The sources disclosed that the fleeing f+ghters are moving through Niger and Kogi states before entering Anambra, with some continuing into Abia and Imo states. Others are reportedly heading further south and west.
“These t+rrorists started moving from Zamfara through forests and remote routes and may have ended up in states such as Imo and Abia. Some are even believed to be in Ogun State,” a senior security source said.
The officials explained that the insurgents rely on interconnected forests, cattle paths and riverine corridors that stretch across several states, enabling them to evade security checkpoints and aerial surveillance.
A retired Army General described Kogi State as a critical transit and coordination hub for the groups, citing its strategic location and access to multiple forest routes leading into southern Nigeria.
“Kogi serves as a major intersection point. From there, they can connect to routes leading to the South-East, South-West and South-South through forests and river channels,” he said.
An operative of the Department of State Services also alleged that some t+rror groups maintain operational bases within forested areas linking Kogi to parts of Ekiti, Ondo and Edo states, providing access deeper into southern regions.
Security experts identified dense forest belts between Anambra and Imo states, including the Owerre-Ezukala, Ogbunike, Awka and Orlu corridors, as potential movement routes due to their difficult terrain and limited accessibility.
Nigeria is a oil producing country that has never had electricity — Kemi Badenoch
Leader of the UK Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, has criticised Nigeria’s governance record, describing the country’s long-standing electricity challenges as a consequence of poor public policy.
Speaking on how her upbringing shaped her political beliefs, Badenoch said Nigeria’s vast natural resources had not translated into prosperity for its citizens.
“Nigeria is an oil-producing country that has never had electricity,” she said. “It is very easy to have resources under the ground, but st¥pid public policy means that you can’t use them.”
The British politician drew parallels between policies she opposes in the United Kingdom and the approach of past Nigerian military governments.
“And I see quite a lot of what Ed Miliband is doing as being very much like what the Nigerian military dictatorships were doing in the 1980s and 1990s,” she stated.
According to Badenoch, excessive government control and wealth redistribution policies often lead to economic decline.
“The government’s going to take control. We know what’s best. We’re going to redistribute. These are st¥pid ideas that eventually just bankrupt the country,” she said.
Reflecting on her childhood in Nigeria, Badenoch said her experiences in a developing country continue to influence her views on governance and economic management.
“Fundamentally, my views about how we should run our country come from growing up in a place that was very poor. You grow up in a third-world country and you look at why it is termed ‘third world,’ and I don’t want that to happen here,” she added.
