As part of our €5 billion #investment announcement last week, Intel employee Niamh Fannon made a special presentation to An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, to mark Intel's continued journey in Ireland.
In 2013, Fintan O'Toole, in collaboration with The Irish Times, the National Museum of Ireland, and the Royal Irish Academy, published A History of Ireland in 100 Objects. The book tells the story of Ireland through 100 objects that have shaped the nation's history, from Mesolithic Ireland to 2005.
Proudly occupying position 98 on the list is the Intel microprocessor.
The presentation piece captures an extract from the book together with an Intel Xeon 6 microprocessor, one of most advanced chips in the world, being manufactured today in Leixlip. The piece also features a postage stamp of the Intel processor, issued in 2017 as one of a number of the 100 objects that became part of a definitive stamp collection created by An Post.
The microprocessor continues to earn its place as one of the most significant objects in Ireland’s history. We are very proud that from this small town, at the edge of Kildare, the global technology footprint is being powered.
