Marc van der Straten: 1948 - 2026 | SRO Motorsports Group is shocked and saddened to learn of Marc van der Straten’s passing at the age of 78.
A true racer until the very end, the cars that bore his name – and modern-day iconic livery – are indelibly linked with GT racing’s growth over the past two decades.
His passion for the sport was also undeniable. What began with a Gillet Vertigo Belcar entry eventually morphed into FIA GT1 World Championship success with Ford before the Marc VDS BMW partnership delivered a Blancpain GT Series title and 24 Hours of Spa victory for the Z4 GT3.
A lengthy sportscar hiatus followed, albeit one spent racing – and winning – at the pinnacle of two-wheeled competition, before the Marc VDS Racing name and colours returned to the GT3 arena in 2024.
Ever competitive, a Boutsen VDS Porsche finished eighth overall at the world’s biggest GT race just seven days ago.
All those at SRO extend their sincere and heartfelt condolences to Marc’s family and members of the Boutsen VDS team at this sad time. His legacy will not be forgotten.
Lionspeed didn’t just win from the pitlane: its crew is also the youngest to claim #Spa24H victory in the event’s GT era (since 2003) and probably across all 78 editions!
Thomas, Bastian and Ricardo beat the previous record set almost 10 years ago, while Buus is the youngest winner since Jules Gounon in 2017 (and fourth youngest of all time).
The wait goes on: Bernd Schneider remains the last driver to win Bathurst, Nürburgring and Spa in the same season (2013).
One place and 12s separated Maro Engel from equaling the achievement on Sunday, while Maxime Martin also had an opportunity to emulate the Mercedes-AMG legend at #Spa24H after winning #IGTC’s first two events.

Jefri and his JMR co-drivers beat points leader Li Kerong to #Spa24H's class and Intercontinental category victories.
Their battle continues at #Suzuka1000km

Porsche ends Merc's dominant start to the IGTC season, with Buus moving 21pts behind championship leader Engel whose DTM commitments prevent him from racing at Suzuka and Indy.
15 of the top 16 places were filled by IGTC entries 💪

Every move counts now, and Nielsen's Ferrari is absolutely motoring! That's a net P3 for a car that's had two punctures and 35s of penalties.
