The DWP is secretly testing sweeping new rules – described as a “recipe for disaster” – on disability benefit assessments, which will reduce the influence of healthcare professionals and hand greater responsibility to civil servants.

A rainy #weekend is a good excuse for a little spring cleaning, something that seems to have become a never-ending task for me since living w/#chronicillness & #chronicpain.

@jojomama81@SkyNews We're talking general cost of living vs pay, not student debt. To look back 15yrs & say inflation means they should have x% increase to meet up with today's rates is not realistic.
"From a clinical perspective, a #doctor might dismiss the #pain, as “#men do not ‘really’ get #ChronicIllness or #fibromyalgia”. Within a societal narrative, men r often expected to b “strong & stoic” — pain is..suppressed voluntarily, yet reluctantly.": https://t.co/YuuA3XyAlY

Yet another awful case of a #woman w/#pain & ill #health dismissed, with deadly consequences. Just b/c you can't see it, doesn't mean a woman is exaggerating, making it up, wanting attention or that it's "just stress".

Understanding The Let Them Theory: Why It’s Changing Lives
We live in a world where a sense of control is often lacking, yet we still desire that sense. But two simple words can set us free: Let them

@UnwantedLife_Me@HColumns I've got the audiobook & still haven't listened to more than 5mins. There's always an excuse for not having time but I've heard good things about how she approaches the topic. I still think "yes, but..." as it's harder if you live with that person, still want their approval, etc.
It makes it all the harder when PIP questions aren't relevant to your personal situation, abilities or requirements. There's no grey areas allowed in answers either. It's like trying to explain the problems when you aren't allowed to use words.
I worked for the NHS for over 20 years in disability rehabilitation, before my disability wasn't accomodated by my employer during the pandemic. PIP has been the most dehumanising, humiliating experience of my life. It degrades me. I wish non PIP claimants understood that.
They should do it for those with chronic, long-term conditions that aren't going to or are unlikely to improve, too. Claimants can be asked every 2yrs if anything has changed, but w/o another application/ review unless there's improvement.
❗️People with terminal or lifelong conditions and disabilities shouldn’t have to keep proving they’re ill just to get support.
We're standing with @mariecurieuk to call on the UK government to change this, so people don't have to go through repeated stress and uncertainty.

#NewBlogPost When you live with #ChronicPain, you have to adapt. Adapting doesn't make everything perfect. It might just make things a little easier. But pain never stands still. It changes, and you need to adapt again. And again...

@snowleopardess The current gov said they'd look at low-level mental health claims & "crack down" on those abusing the system too, which I'd agree with. But that's not happening... they're just going after the easy pickings, ie. those w/genuine problems that prevent them working. It's sickening.

@cfs_jo It's an excellent fan though. No blades to clean,user-friendly, feels high tech & should last well. Every fan I've ever had stops working or starts clonking months later b/c of the fan mechanism, so I couldn't bring myself to buy yet another pedestal fan that wouldn't last.
