United States attorney general announces more charges against Maduro, abducted by Delta Force from Venezuela in January, for conspiracy to commit torture.

This could reflect that cocaine trafficking charges (still there) are tougher to prove, and this makes prosecution easier.

A superseding indictment was just unsealed charging Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores with conspiracy to commit torture, including the alleged torture of United States citizens for over two decades, in addition to the narcotics trafficking and weapons offenses already charged.

The community of El Balcón, Guerrero, released a statement. It reaffirmed the kidnap victims work as farmers and in the production of wood and mezcal. It said they were dressed in different clothes to the ones they were kidnapped in.

La Familia cartel kidnapped 8 farmers working on fields near the village of El Balcón, Guerrero. It released a 12 year old boy with a demand: they want to be able transit through area and station operatives.

US ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson wants to be meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum, but she is turning him down, possibly wary of how it will be reported/ wanting to keep distance, a US embassy official tells me. Sheinbaum talks with Trump by phone about once a month.
