The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Sh @narendramodi Ji, has approved the continuation of the targeted subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) during FY 2026-27. The subsidy will be prorated for 5 kg cylinders, with a total expenditure of ₹12,001 crore.

Launched in May 2016, PMUY has provided deposit-free LPG connections to nearly 10.57 crore mothers and sisters from poor households till now across the country. The popularity of the scheme reflects in the fact that the beneficiaries have availed about 42 crore refills during 2025-26.

Despite the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the disruption to traditional energy routes, India has kept its LPG supply chain moving. Imports are being sourced from a wider range of suppliers, while efforts are underway to keep shipments moving safely despite disruptions around critical sea routes.

Domestic LPG production was also stepped up 28% within five days of the March 2026 directive to maximise refinery output. Longer-term supplies are being secured and stocks are being maintained to ensure that households continue to get LPG without disruption.

As a result of these measures India is able to provide LPG to the consumers at one of the cheapest prices in the world.

Strengthening the energy backbone of South India!

IndianOil is developing the Kochi–Kanyakumari–Thoothukudi Natural Gas Pipeline, spanning 425 km and strengthening the region’s natural gas infrastructure.

With an investment of ₹2,449 crore and a capacity of 6.84 MMSCMD, the project will enhance gas availability for industries, power plants, City Gas Distribution networks and other downstream users.

It will also strengthen connectivity with the existing natural gas pipeline network in southern India, enabling a more integrated and reliable energy ecosystem.

A moment that changed India’s energy landscape forever.

Throwing it back to 17 August 1960, when Mr B. Arora, IndianOil’s first Managing Director, opened the valve for the unloading of the inaugural red oil cargo.

The Soviet tanker MV Uzhgorod arrived at Mumbai’s Pir Pau jetty with 11,390 tonnes of diesel, marking IndianOil’s bold entry into the petroleum market.

And the impact was immediate. IndianOil’s entry challenged the dominance of foreign oil majors, compelling them to slash diesel prices for bulk users by as much as ₹8.80 to ₹35 per KL.

A first step that made a lasting difference to India’s energy journey.
