Four years ago, Jina (Mahsa) Amini was killed at the hands of Iran’s so-called morality police.

Her death exposed to the world the brutal reality of compulsory hijab in Iran - a system that denies women the basic right to decide how they dress and subjects them to harassment, intimidation, arrest and violence for refusing to comply.

And four years on, Iranian women continue to resist.

They face intimidation and punishment simply for choosing not to wear the hijab, or for wearing it in a way the authorities deem unacceptable. Yet they continue to stand up for their freedom, their rights and their dignity.

We will never forget Jina Amini, or the many others who have lost their lives in the struggle for freedom.

IOPHR stands with the brave women and people of Iran. We will continue to stand with them in their pursuit of the freedom, human rights and dignity they deserve.

IOPHR condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the latest wave of executions carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the execution of two young men in Isfahan and the deeply alarming reports that several more executions are imminent.

Among the latest victims of the Islamic Republic’s execution machinery are young people whose cases have become emblematic of the repression of a new generation of Iranians. These include Amir Hossein Safari and Abolfazl Sepahi, publicly executed by hanging this morning (28th July 2026) for the so‑called ‘crime’ of protesting.

IOPHR, expresses its deep concern regarding the situation of all political and prisoners of conscience in Iran, especially Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi and prominent lawyer and human rights defender Nasrin Sotoudeh.

Numerous reports from prisons of the Islamic Republic indicate that political, civil, labour, legal and ideological detainees are not only deprived of fair trial guarantees, but are also subjected to security pressures, lack of communication with their families, undisclosed transfers, psychological torture, and deliberate denial of access to medication and medical treatment.

He was executed yesterday by the Iranian regime.

Amirhossein was arrested during the January-26 uprising and killed just 84 days later. No justice. No due process.

This regime is executing young men and women because it fears them, their voice, their courage and their demand for freedom.

Alarming reports from Iran indicate that children and young people are being tortured, arbitrarily detained, forcibly disappeared, and sentenced to death following unfair, fast-tracked trials linked to recent protests. Credible accounts point to the use of torture, forced “confessions,” and the denial of fundamental legal safeguards.

The execution of individuals for crimes committed under the age of 18 constitutes a clear violation of international law. The regime authorities of Islamic Republic must immediately halt all executions and the international community must act urgently to prevent further human rights violations.

Amid war, the Islamic Republic has executed three young protesters, Saleh Mohammadi, 19, a national wrestling champion, Mehdi Ghasemi, and Saeed Davoudi, following January protests in Qom, with the intention to instill fear and deter further protests.

This marks the first known executions linked to the most recent nationwide uprising that led to the murder of tens of thousands and the arrest of hundreds of thousands.

They were sentenced after sham trials, with reports of torture, forced confessions broadcast on state TV, denial to choose their own lawyers, closed-door proceedings, and no right to appeal.

Authorities charged them with “moharebeh”, or “waging war against God”, alongside vague accusations such as “inciting violence” and “acting against national security.”

The right to protest is a fundamental human right. A state that executes its own citisens for dissent cannot be treated as legitimate. The international community must exert maximum pressure on the regime of Islamic Republic and stand by the people of Iran.
