Today, 🇮🇪 Minister @DarraghOBrienTD together with partners from Tuvalu 🇹🇻 and the Marshall Islands 🇲🇭, hosted a panel discussion on Clean Energy Transition 💡🌏

An important opportunity to exchange island perspectives on how governments, institutions and civil society can work together to decarbonise island nations across the globe.

This week, Brian Brennan TD and Senator Garret Ahearn of the 🇮🇪 Oireachtas Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade engaged with several of Ireland’s key partners at the @UN in New York.

They had constructive discussions on current issues, including UN reform, with civil society organisations, UN Secretariat and UN agency representatives 🇺🇳 and @EUAmbUN 🇪🇺

Ireland’s UN Youth Delegates, Aisling and Carla, are at @UN HQ for the High-Level Political Forum. 🇮🇪🇺🇳

As part of #HLPF2026, @UNYouthIRL have delivered two national statements:

✅ Aisling addressed SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities) and called for youth to be actively involved in urban and rural planning, to ensure communities are designed to support wellbeing, participation and climate resilience 🏙️

✅ Carla spoke on strengthening alliances for SDG engagement, stating that the #SDGs represent hope, a commitment to progress and the belief that partnerships can transform shared ambitions into lasting achievements 🤝

This afternoon, Ireland 🇮🇪, Antigua and Barbuda 🇦🇬 & Bangladesh 🇧🇩 co-chaired a high-level meeting of the UN Friends of Vision on ending avoidable sight loss and strengthening coordinated progress under the 2030 Agenda.

Discussion focused on integrated approaches across sectors including education, employment, health and road safety.

This week, Ireland & @GCR2P held the annual Evans-Sahnoun Lecture on the Responsibility to Protect framework, which emphasises prevention as the foundation for confronting the risks of mass atrocity crimes.

We thank our keynote speaker, @RichardGowan1, for his talk on ‘The Future of UN Conflict Prevention: Mediation, Diplomacy and the Responsibility to Protect.’

Ireland 🇮🇪 this week hosted the launch of UN Special Rapporteur Siobhán Mullally’s policy paper on risks of trafficking in persons during @UNPeacekeeping transitions.

New or exacerbated risks of trafficking can emerge during peacekeeping transitions, alongside a reduced capacity to respond.

This makes it all the more important to examine how protection risks can be better integrated into transition planning & addressed through stronger partnerships.
