🟥 Journalist Vakho Sanaia met police outside his home, to be taken into custody to serve his third term of administrative detention.
➡️ As in his previous case, Sanaia was ordered detained over Facebook posts, but this time for 30 days instead of 14.
➡️ The decision was announced by Judge Tornike Kochkiani.
➡️ Sanaia was accused of insulting @shpapuashvili and Lado Bozhadze and thereby “violating public order”.
➡️ Before his detention, the journalist told @netgazeti that he would not give up his right to freedom of expression and that this detention changed nothing.

🟥 “If the car is not running it makes no sense if we push them from behind and the motor is not running. And the motor can only run if there is fuel and fuel are the reforms” — @MartaKosEU explains why the #EU is preparing membership roadmaps only for #Montenegro, #Albania, #Moldova and #Ukraine, and not for other candidate countries, such as #Georgia.
On October 8, the @EUparliament is expected to adopt another critical resolution on Georgia.
This time, the resolution concerns the @GeorgianDream41 government’s attempts to ban opposition parties in Georgia.
The draft resolution, seen by @netgazeti, strongly condemns the attempts to ban Georgia’s opposition parties and calls for the immediate withdrawal of the constitutional lawsuit filed against them.

A year ago today, Mzia Amaglobeli, a prominent Georgian journalist, was sentenced to two years in prison. We remain concerned that her sentence is disproportionate and politicised and call again for her immediate release.
Today marks one year since the politically motivated imprisonment of Georgian journalist Mzia Amaglobeli. Lithuania calls on Georgian Dream to end its Russia-style persecution and release Mzia, along with other imprisoned representatives of Georgia’s opposition and civil society.

One year ago today, Mzia Amaghlobeli was sentenced to two years in prison after more than seven months of unjustified pretrial detention. Her charge was arbitrarily changed at the end of the trial, raising serious fair trial concerns.
A year later, Mzia is still behind bars.
🟥On the first anniversary of Georgian journalist Mzia Amaglobeli's sentencing, the @MediaFreedomC, the EU, and several Western embassies have renewed calls for her immediate and unconditional release, describing her imprisonment as politically motivated and disproportionate.

"Mzia's case is emblematic of a much wider deterioration of press freedom in #Georgia."

There is no freedom of speech whatsoever :)
They know perfectly well they can’t fine everyone. This wave of selective, exemplary punishments is meant to terrorise people and create self-censorship, so that everyone becomes afraid to express their thoughts, even on social media
🔴Journalist and @FormulaGe anchor Vakho Sanaia sentenced to 14 days of administrative detention over Facebook posts.
❌ Sanaia was previously fined 6,000 GEL for a sarcastic post mocking a newly established unit that monitors social media for profanity and initiates administrative proceedings. The post ironically urged people "not to call Shalva Papuashvili and Lado Bozhadze d*cks."
❌ After being fined, Sanaia published further posts about the case, joking that the judge's ruling implied Papuashvili and Bozhadze were, in fact, d*cks. Those follow-up posts became the basis for a new administrative case, which has now resulted in a 14-day detention.

The words of Georgian journalist @irmadimitradze when she joined CPJ at the @UKParliament this month to ask MPs, including @JWhittingdale, to call on #Georgia to immediately and unconditionally release veteran journalist Mzia Amaglobeli. Her imprisonment is not only politically motivated, but also a symbol of Georgia's alarming repression of independent journalism. #FreeMzia

⭕️Recently released Polish-Belarusian journalist Andrzej Poczobut has called for the release of fellow #SakharovPrize laureate Mzia Amaglobeli, who remains in prison.
Speaking in @Europarl_EN, Poczobut said:“Journalists should be free and not in prison”.

🇬🇪 #Georgia’s Independence Day is being marked by a mass protest in #Tbilisi organised by an Opposition Alliance comprising nine political parties.
People gathered near Tbilisi State University before marching to the Parliament building, where daily #GeorgiaProtests have been taking place since 28 November 2024, the day Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that Georgia’s #EU accession process would be "removed from the government’s agenda until the end of 2028".
I’m beyond excited to hear this news! Andrzej is free!
We continue the fight for #FreeMzia, #FreeJournalism, and #FreeWorld👇🏻
🟢So Andrzej can return to his home in #Belarus and live a happy life with his family one day.
🟢So #Georgia can return to its European path!
Great news on the release of Andrzej Poczobut!
But another 2025 Sakharov Prize laureate, Mzia Amaglobeli, remains jailed by GD with no meaningful international access to see her.
@Europarl_EN has said clearly: there is no place for political prisoners in an EU candidate country
