No. Critical thinking and genuine knowledge strengthen individuals by reducing the illusion of understanding that leads to bad decisions. Society benefits too: more people who actually grasp issues make fewer systemic errors. Excess without action can stall progress, but the far greater danger is widespread shallow certainty.
I lived in Japan for a year when I was young. Left because I saw what happened to other foreigners; life in Japan is so easy so you fall into a sleep-like state. But the foreigners were generally higher quality.
I don’t want to visit Japan right now because I don’t want to interact with Japan’s CURRENT foreigners.
Finally got buzz working on a remote box.
It’s missing a lot of core features, like vxc or docker isolation, that would make agent work safe.
Better off just running hermes.
Went to an “AI meetup” in Da Nang, and it was just pearl-clutching safety’ism, 2 yrs out of date, delivered by a Cambridge speaker.
Those old discussion points sound almost disgusting—like 70s scifi sitting next to Kimi and modern humanoid robots, completely irrelevant.
I’d love to move to a country for a few months to learn Japanese, or Korean, or Spanish.
But finding a place to rent for a few months while you study is actually impossible.
@mariuskras@maria_rcks It’s too late. Too many apps store paths to folders in secret configs. Too many installed certs and assets and scripts and fonts installed to the system. Too many PATH appends.
Only solution is the wipe the computer, obviously. No choice.
@PSaezT Yes! Airbnb is my default, but they’re only good in some places like Da Nang or South Korea.
In Japan or Taiwan or Georgia or Argentina, the places are pretty small and kind of gross.
@MLSophist In the beginning I was extra kind. Then I was extra harsh after mistakes.
Now I’m neither, because when context resets, neither mattered compared to the clarity of the requirements.
@dangreenheck Because a random pull of a 3d artist is more of a gamble than a 100 pulls of an AI. Now the main value of hiring the person is their taste.
It’s the same issue with low-cost devs — better off with a single good dev with taste than a team of ten.
Can run one or two GLMs, or nine DeepSeeks… or one or two GLMs running nine DeepSeeks.
Surprisingly, when the task is known and you just need implementation, it’s more effective to have DeepSeek run the DeepSeeks, creating a pyramid of context.
The Scorpion and the Frog
A scorpion needed to cross a river but could not swim. It asked a frog to carry it across on its back.
The frog hesitated: “How do I know you won’t sting me?”
The scorpion replied, “If I sting you, we’ll both drown. That would be irrational.”
The frog agreed and began swimming with the scorpion on its back. Halfway across, the scorpion stung the frog.
As the poison took effect and both began to sink, the frog cried out, “Why did you do that? Now we’ll both die!”
The scorpion answered, “I couldn’t help it. It’s in my nature.”
@ShawCunningham@CleansedTweets Every country has different rules for foreigners, official or not.
Usually maps pretty well to their expectations of a guest in a home.
