ضروری نہیں کہ حوس صرف زیادتی یا کم عمری کی شادیوں کی شکل میں سامنے آئے، بلکہ یہ ذہنی پستی اور بیمار سوچ کی صورت میں بھی ظاہر ہوتی ہے۔ یہی وجہ ہے کہ کلاش کمیونٹی بھی ایسے لوگوں اور ان کی حرکات سے تنگ آ چکی ہے۔

The National Conference on Prosthetics and Orthotics (NCPO 2026), held at Post Graduate Medical Institute Peshawar on March 28 and 29, has marked a significant milestone in Pakistan’s rehabilitation sector as the first national-level gathering dedicated exclusively to Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O).

The conference brought together clinicians, researchers, and professionals from across Pakistan and abroad, creating a much-needed platform to discuss challenges, advancements, and the future direction of this critical healthcare field. More than an academic event, NCPO 2026 emerged as a unified call to address longstanding gaps in a discipline often overlooked despite its essential role.

Prosthetics and Orthotics operate in two key domains: prosthetics focuses on artificial limbs for individuals with limb loss, while orthotics supports those with physical impairments through braces and assistive devices. Both are fundamental in restoring mobility, independence, and dignity.

Despite growing demand, thousands of individuals across Pakistan still face limited access to these services due to financial barriers, fragmented systems, and lack of policy support. Participants highlighted that rehabilitation remains incomplete without strengthening the role of prosthetists and orthotists, emphasizing the need for formal recognition of the field as a core component of healthcare.

While progress is visible through academic advancements such as MS programs in Prosthetics and Orthotics and improved institutional training, systemic challenges persist. These include weak integration into national health strategies, inappropriate patient referrals to unqualified individuals, and insufficient government support.

The strong participation at NCPO 2026 reflects growing unity within the P&O community, signaling a shift from neglect toward recognition. The conference concluded with a clear message to policymakers: meaningful investment, structured policy frameworks, and institutional backing are essential to ensure equitable access to rehabilitation services.
