A Cheat Cannot Be Considered a True Muslim

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) strongly condemned cheating and dishonesty in business and transactions. When he discovered that a grain merchant had concealed wet, defective grain beneath a layer of dry grain, he made it clear that deception has no place in Islam. Any defects in goods must be disclosed openly so that buyers can make informed decisions.

This Hadith calls upon us to uphold honesty, transparency and integrity in every transaction. Misrepresenting products, concealing defects or using false claims to make a sale violates the trust between people. True Islamic character is reflected in fair dealings and sincerity—not merely in outward appearances or words.

Intoxicants are Unlawful Even in Small Quantities

This Hadith makes clear that substances capable of causing intoxication are prohibited even in small quantities. The teaching warns against assuming that limited consumption is harmless, emphasising the importance of addressing harmful habits at their roots rather than allowing opportunities for them to develop.

The accompanying teachings explain that what begins as occasional or limited use can gradually lead to excessive consumption and serious consequences. Islam therefore encourages believers to avoid intoxicants altogether, recognising that their harmful effects outweigh any perceived benefits.
