You don't destroy your society for a flu, so why covid?
3 questions to answer:
Is lockdown moral?
Does it work?
If it works, is the trade off worth it?
After 17 months of this, what more can be said? The suspension of basic rights to combat any 'threat' should NEVER HAPPEN even if the the measures work brilliantly. Lockdowns are immoral in their premise. The fact they don't work is just the kicker.
My position:
1) Lockdowns should never be done in a Western country
2) There isn't any evidence of their efficacy
3) Even if they are purported to work, the trade off is appalling for a virus with a median age of death of 82.4.
@ItsABadFlu When I brought up the cost to a colleague he said that eventually we will get the Tories out and maybe then we will finally properly tax the rich.
He went on to state that working one day less per week at same pay will become law within the next ten years.
The delusion is real.
The covid measures have cost around £400bn. Throwing £50m on a non existent problem like long covid is just a drop in the ocean.
And then people will complain about tax rises. We've got f*cking idiots everywhere.
1. "Vaccinating the Unvaccinated" (mandates for workplaces)
Case rates are comparable or higher in vaccinated adults than unvaccinated.
Seems like it should be a personal choice given it clearly doesn't stop transmission.

@tarquinrees@BitcoinAgain@100trillionUSD There's plenty of tory rebels on this issue. It's not a certainty. Secondly, I think there will be significant pushback from the business sector on this one. Thirdly, the British public have an aversion to ID cards, we will see pushback there too.
'Look what's happening in Aus, it could happen here'
While a concern, have you had a lobotomy? We went through that phase last year. That version of government over reach won't happen any time soon in the UK and they will come out of it too.
Same as media panic about Covid19. In the beginning gov and their scientists reassured us about the low fatality of Covid19. They were right. They told us masks didn't work. They were right.
The fear mongers kept pushing. Government joined them. Here we are.
I got offered a N95 mask from a mate that stockpiled them in early March 2020.
I thought to myself 'No thanks, I'm not walking around looking like a prick'. We're basically at that stage now, as few are wearing them, and if you wear one, you think of yourself as a prick.
