#Biden got the speeches right and lost African youth. #Trump got the speeches wrong and won them. Delivery beats decency in geopolitics. Uncomfortable? Good!

During the last wave of #xenophobia in South Africa, I had the chance to ask Mama Winnie what her thoughts were about it. While it was happening, while Africans were turning on one another. What she told me has stayed with me. You will hear it in her own words at the end of this.
I am disheartened. That pretty much sums it up.
Yes, I am a South African, but I am ultimately an African. I was there when our neighbours opened their borders to help us during the struggle against apartheid.

Today we remember one of the most remarkable days in South African history.
A day that began the end of one of the most brutal regimes the world had seen.
50 years on, we remember them. The ones who gave more than most of us will ever be asked to give.

As much as development in Africa is essential, our wildlife and wilderness areas must be maintained and protected. That is a balance we cannot afford to get wrong.
Today we celebrate a global icon. Sir #DavidAttenborough turns 100, and that is no mean feat.
For decades, David has brought the world an awareness of how incredibly valuable our natural world is, and how incredibly fragile it is too.
The Ichikowitz Family Foundation has supported conservation efforts across Africa for many years. We believe our natural resources are an asset of this continent, and they should be preserved in perpetuity.
The spirit of the struggle had a name. Today we rekindle it. Join Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's granddaughters as they go beyond the myth, the icon, the legend, to uncover the woman behind it all.
@trialsofwinnie is now streaming on @NetflixSA.

I created the African Oral History Archive many years ago to protect the voices, memories and lived truths that shaped #Africa because Africa's history deserves to be heard from the people who lived, felt it & made it #oralhistory#SouthAfrica AOHA โ African Oral History Archive
#History isnโt just about what happened, it's about understanding what drives people, decisions & change. The patterns are always there, the lessons are always there. The question is whether we choose to learn from them...or repeat them.

Youth cannot be told to wait while the future is being decided without them.
Inspire them, trust them, and let them lead now.
