Because all your body knows is survival. All your brain wants to do is to protect itself from getting killed. When the game comes, the emotions, fears, and feelings all come with it, both good and bad. And no recovery day patterning is going to fix it.
Why do you think your “form” looks good at 70% intensity by yourself when no one is around? Why could you throw 70% strikes in a bullpen by yourself, but walk the first 3 hitters in a game?
Think about how many mindless throws you’ve made in your career — with no goal, intention, or thought process behind them. What if you had a goal for every throw you made, that actually transferred to your game?
So if pitching should be subconscious and shooting should be conscious, how can they benefit each other? I think Turner’s ideas are extremely underrated when it comes to pre-pitch thoughts and mindset.
