Long ago, I joined @Pathology_URMC as the only #Pedipath. I was doing 2-3 peds autopsies/week and had no one to discuss them with. When the emotional burden got bad, I'd go play with the kids of my friends.
This weekend I'm going to the wedding of one of my therapy babies. 🥳
In addition to being a fabulous colleague, @UVA_Pathology’s Dr. Sara Zadeh is a rising star in #pathology and lab leadership. @Pathologists keep your eye on this one!
I became a mom (twice!) in fellowship & many people told me I should wait.
To anyone being told they have to put their parenting plans on hold until training is done, don't listen. This narrative is not helpful. We need more representation of parents in training & more support.
Did you know we have five teachers and one para educator? They all work full-time with our patients and their schools to ensure each child can continue their education while being hospitalized.
Happy National Teacher Appreciation Day to our pediatric educators! 💛
Lab Week 2023 has begun! We are having lots of fun dressing for 90's music artist day, taking "cell-fies", and playing pin the needle on the vein! #ASCPLabWeek23
Fetal membranes separation.
This fetoscopic clip shows separation of the translucent amnion from the underlying chorion.
If possible, fetal procedures should be delayed until after fusion of the membranes (usually by 16-18 weeks’ gestation).
Chronic hemosiderotic synovitis. Note: hemosiderin exists in both synoviocytes and subsynovial histiocytes. Nodular proliferations of histiocytoid cells are not present. But a word of caution. I have seen these features adjacent to classic PVNS. Submit and examine all tissue!
@basophil_brett Do both! In fellowship I rotated with an amazing pathologist who is peds + forensics. Learned so much - and know they are highly valued in both academic peds path and forensic path settings!
Normally, I like my donuts heated up in the microwave (for 3-5 sec). But in the context of Hirschsprung disease and endorectal pull-throughs - always a good idea to freeze your donuts!
You have to see for yourself but this is a place where you are encouraged to follow your interests: research, education, QA, clinical improvement, administration? We will cheer you on and walk many times to the coffee cart.
Come work in beautiful Charlottesville, VA with the nicest colleagues in the land! #UVAPath has an open-rank position for a general surgical pathologist with subspecialty interest. You can learn more here: https://t.co/E79RRpNbGa

Placental pathologists: in your practice, a triploid karyotype plus suspicious morphology (including prominent trophoblast proliferation) is enough to call it a partial mole? Do you consider STR genotyping mandatory, even in this scenario?
Thank you
