A long-awaited upgrade is underway at Morgan’s Pass Primary, with rehabilitation works to the roof, windows and doors ahead of the new school term.

Special thanks to Senator the Hon. Dr. Dana Morris Dixon for her support in helping to make this much-needed work a reality. We also thank the Ministry of Education and the entire regional team for their partnership.

Morgan’s Pass has a proud record of excellence, with its students consistently performing among the best in our constituency. We commend Principal Ms. Haase and the hardworking teachers who continue to nurture and contribute to that success.

☆ $90 million invested in this Braco Pipeline Installation Project.

Today, we commissioned the Bunkers Hill Water Supply Project in Northern Clarendon $91.6 million investment that will provide a more reliable and in some cases first time supply of potable water to approximately 1,000 residents across Bunkers Hill, Mears, Broadleaf and Nairne Castle.

From solar pumping and new pipelines to upgraded and additional water storage, this project is delivering greater water security and a better quality of life for communities in Northern Clarendon.

A team from the Ministry and Rural Water Supply Limited recently toured the Stephene y Water Storage Tank site to observe the progress of construction and review the ongoing development.

The site visit provided an opportunity to engage with the work being undertaken and assess the advancement of this important water infrastructure project, which will contribute to improved water storage and greater resilience within the water supply network.

With continued collaboration and oversight, we remain focused on delivering infrastructure that supports the long-term water needs of communities across Jamaica.

Amid the ongoing challenges around informal settlements, we are focused on creating legitimate pathways to homeownership and making safe, decent homes available to Jamaicans who need them.

Mr. Butterfield, a resident of North Trelawny, represented by MP Tova Hamilton, now has a brand-new home through the New Social Housing Programme.

This is how we address the housing challenge sustainably, by creating real solutions that give people security, dignity and a solid foundation for the future.

The situation in Cooper’s Pen is a humanitarian tragedy, and I understand the pain, uncertainty and disruption that the affected families are experiencing.

No one wants to lose their home under these circumstances, and no one should feel that the State has abandoned them.

That is why the Government moved quickly to provide temporary assistance to families whose structures were demolished. We are also providing support to help families through the back-to-school period, while we assess the longer-term needs of those affected.

But the greater challenge is housing. We have been examining the resources available to the Government and developing a plan to help affected families find safe and secure places to live.

At the same time, we must be clear about the policy that guides our response. My Government does not support illegal or informal settlement of land. We cannot encourage people to occupy land illegally with the expectation that they will eventually become owners.

But saying that squatting is wrong cannot mean that we abandon the people who are already living in informal settlements.

Many of the families affected are also victims of history and of policies that have not always provided people with a clear and legitimate pathway to home ownership.

Our responsibility now is to help change that.

I want to see the people of Cooper’s Pen move from informal settlement to secure and legitimate home ownership. That means finding practical solutions that provide families with a safe place to live and, where possible, a pathway to legally owning property.

Today, I am in Cooper’s Pen, Trelawny, alongside MP Tova Hamilton, Minister Edmund Bartlett and State Minister Abka Fitz-Henley, engaging with residents to better understand their individual circumstances and determine what support and solutions may be available.

For many families, this is a difficult and uncertain time. That is why we are taking the time to listen, assess each situation and explore practical options.

Our approach must be compassionate and focused on finding sustainable solutions. We will continue to work with the affected families and provide the necessary support as we move forward.

Prime Minister Holness had a honest conversation with residents of Cooper's Pen today and conveyed practical and lawful solutions which the Government has, from a humanitarian perspective, worked on.

The Prime Minister reasoned with residents after dwellings they had established on private property were demolished by the property owner who had obtained an eviction order following a long-running Court dispute.

Recently, I met with the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association and leaders from across the tourism sector to discuss priority actions for the continued development of Jamaica’s tourism industry.

Our discussions focused on how we can strengthen the value created through tourism and ensure that its benefits reach more Jamaicans. This includes supporting local farmers, manufacturers, taxi operators, craft vendors and small businesses that provide goods and services to the sector.

The Jamaica First agenda remains an important part of this work. We must strengthen local supply chains and create opportunities for Jamaican businesses to provide the food, goods, services and facilities required by the tourism industry.

Infrastructure was also a key part of the discussion. Our roads, towns and public spaces require sustained planning and investment.

The experience and expertise within the JHTA will be valuable as we continue these discussions and identify practical actions.
