From @TheAthleticFC: Penalty shootouts are brutal. Is there a better way to settle tied games? A fairer way? A more fitting test of skills?
We asked our writers and this is what they think the World Cup can steal from other sports: https://t.co/r4KfBlk4e1
It's just ridiculous the number of spots that go to continents like Asia when their countries have done so little on the pitch to earn it. If the World Cup does expand to 64, Asia shouldn't get another spot. Knowing FIFA as it is, they'll receive another 3/4 for selling TV rights

He gets to this stage and tries to box clever, making snide comments all the while. He thinks any win will do against Haiti and then picks the Brazil game to set out our most attacking team. Does he realise it’d be better to beat Haiti 3-0 and lose 5-0 to Brazil than what we did?
It is very clear that Steve Clarke views the tournament format of best third place teams going through as a reason to be cautious, when in fact it should be the total opposite. If we go out on goal difference, the fact we’ve scored just one goal in the group stage will be why 🏴
@KevinMcG01@BladesBall@MuscatLoyal@scotlandscoeff1 Better than that:
• Mexico to win or draw
• South Korea to win or draw
• Germany to win or draw
• Ivory Coast to win or draw
• Egypt to win
• Spain to win
By far my favourite Scotland vs Brazil story is the referee saying “Good luck, may the best team win” to both captains before the game in 1982 and Graeme Souness replying “I fucking hope not”
We have been drawn against the winners of FK Vllaznia (Albania) v FC Malisheva (Kosovo) in the Second Qualifying Round of the UEFA Conference League.
The first leg will take place away from home on Thursday 23 July, while the return leg will take place at Easter Road on Thursday 30 July.
These ‘hydration breaks’ are fundamentally warping the World Cup. Curacao had just enjoyed perhaps the highlight so far with that equaliser against Germany and were on the attack again. Then three minutes to promote a laptop brand, and momentum is handed straight back. Wretched.
