The Labour government have proved that their net zero policies are gigantic piss take. They tell us plebs to turn off our lights, reduce eating red meat and dairy and also slap carbon taxes on us, yet they are ramming through hundreds of massive data centres that hoover up energy and water - which risk higher energy bills and jeopardise energy and water security.

▪️These gigantic hyperscale data centres that consume as much electricity in 24 hours as roughly 89 average streets use over an entire year.

▪️The UK now hosts more than 500 active data centres (the third largest in the world). They have been rammed through despite huge local community concerns about the impact on their local landscapes and energy and water consumption.

▪️These enormous data centres are giant industrial facilities consuming vast quantities of electricity, water and land while placing increasing pressure on the UK’s energy infrastructure.

▪️Water consumption by data centres is expected to reach 9.3 trillion litres, while CO2 emissions will rise to 399 million tons.

▪️Annual power consumption from data centres is projected to double to 945 TWh by 2030, around ‌the ⁠same as the whole of Japan’s energy consumption, with AI accounting for 40% of the total.

▪️It is estimated that data-centre power and water consumption could double by 2030 due to AI growth.

▪️Emerging research suggests large AI facilities can create localised warming effects around their sites, sometimes described as a “data heat island” effect.

Net zero for us, but not for the tech giants. Power taken from us to power Big Tech data centres.

The whole ‘Vote Andy For Us’ campaign slogan is one monumental sham.

On the far left of the photo is Kate Green. Green was in the thick of the plots, coups and leadership bids that undermined Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership from 2015 through to the 2017 election. Green was one of the Blairite right-wing faction who refused to accept the democratic mandate that Corbyn had been given to lead the Labour Party.

When the 2016 coup failed, Green then went into overdrive. She was the principal organiser of Owen Smith’s leadership bid. Her assistants included Lisa Nandy and Heidi Alexander. Once again, Green and her fellow plotters were showing their absolute contempt for party democracy. Smith and Alexander with their links to private healthcare and powerful private healthcare tycoons like Peter Hearn. All of them solidly opposed to Corbyn’s attempts to keep the @NHS in public hands.

What Burnham is doing is bringing all his old Westminster and Manchester cronies into his campaign: Green, Nandy, Powell, Bryant, Reynolds, Rayner etc. and the army of obedient sycophants who are going to Makefield to campaign on his behalf.

The last thing in the world that the Kate Greens, Nandys and Powells care about are the people - the ‘us’ of Makerfield or anywhere: democracy. Burnham knows this but his ambition and his ego demand that he has these influential, factional mischief-makers onside for the likely battles that lie ahead.

He talks about changing the Labour Party which in reality is utter garbage. How can you bring about change when you’re retaining the very people who fought tooth and nail to prevent meaningful change?
