**Update: Our concerns about the severity of the Aug 5 Calgary hailstorm are confirmed. At $2.8B, it is now the 2nd costliest insured natural hazard event ever in Canadian history. NHPs data analysis will continue over the coming months so that we can learn from these impacts.

On August 5th, the @westernuNHP & @ibhshailstudy field teams tracked an intense storm from west of Cochrane into Calgary. The teams collected detailed data, including deploying disdrometers and hailpads ahead of the storm and collecting many large hailstones.

Damage survey update: the field teams begun a successful hail damage survey today in Calgary, documenting some of the areas of most intense damage. They will continue to document the damage swath over the next few days.

NTP investigation documented a path of EF0 downburst damage through Legal, AB on July 31, with felled trees and removed shingles along a path 155 km long / 17 km wide. A tent near Busby was destroyed with 50+ injuries and 1 fatality.
