In case you missed it: I wrote a book.
It's called "American Prophets: The Religious Roots of Progressive Politics and the Ongoing Fight for the Soul of the Country."
It's on the Religious Left, came out in paperback in April, and you can order it here: https://t.co/iiXc3Wwn6m
At a campaign stop at Campbell Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Bolivar, state Rep. Justin Pearson said that with xAI's data center outside Memphis, "it is them at the top versus the rest of us." @NewYorker dives into Pearson's congressional campaign: https://t.co/5ytnA9tMhc
"A survey released Tuesday (Oct. 20) found that Republicans and evangelicals increasingly see empathy as a danger that can lead society away from God." https://t.co/1pKLKEa07v

Since folks are talking about Tommy Teepell, just gonna note that he and (mainly) his father, GOP strategist Timmy Tepell, were a subject of an investigation I did a couple of years ago.
Both have ties to Sean Feucht, who espouses Christian nationalism. https://t.co/zCf0bGAgLA
The “Tommy” show in the viral video from Abdul El-Sayed is a former staffer for Sen. Josh Hawley and the son of a GOP strategist.

NEW from me and @fiona_ndre: After religious pushback, Trump says Pentagon won’t livestream execution.
Also: Reaction from Pastors Robert Jeffress and Doug Wilson, who were among the few faith leaders to show public support for the execution. https://t.co/PQ82CKbzDg
Fascinating thing buried in the crosstabs here:
White evangelicals show the *most* support for live-streaming the execution, but it’s still only 25%.
Exactly zero of the major religious groups polled showed majority support for live-streaming the Fort Hood shooter’s execution.
Americans oppose live-streaming Nidal Hasan's execution, 80%-18%, per a new WaPo-ABC poll.
But one group supports it: MAGA Republican men, who back it 57%-42%.
(FWIW, it seems like he won her over: She and Talarico disagreed on abortion theologically, but it wasn’t clear if they ultimately disagreed policy-wise, and she repeatedly said she was impressed with him.)
Oh: they brought one of the voters Talarico spoke to back, and she seemed super theologically knowledgeable, and that’s bc…she’s a professor of applied ministry at a Catholic University.
She noted specific theological differences between Catholicism and the PC(USA) on abortion.
This Talarico CNN town hall is wild.
Talarico just had several sit-down conversations w/voters that exposed massive differences between mainliners, Catholics and evangelicals.
Yet Talarico is more gesturing toward mainline theology while also trying to keep voters on his side.
@CrawfordStuff It may be a matter of the different races they’re running, and how long they’ve been running them (I.e., Hamilton has only been running for a few months), not to mention one was already a politician and the other wasn’t.
But generally agree here — different approaches.

Hard to stress how unusual it’s been to watch convos like this unfold this year — ones that put mainline theology on full display in a political context.
Many traditions have been there, but this year — w/Talarico, Hamilton, Garriott, etc — mainliners have been in the spotlight.
It’s interesting, bc voters are initially challenging his theology at the outset, which suggests mainline theology is seen as disputable as opposed to a tradition you either respect or not.
But Talarico repeatedly insists they’re all part of the same faith, and driving that home

NEW: There are an unusual number of pastors, former pastors and seminarians on the ballot this year, with many locked in tight races.
So I've rounded up the major races that feature faith leaders, and broke down which ones @RNS is keeping an eye on. https://t.co/TZ7bz57UiE
In addition to the well-known Adam Hamilton and James Talarico campaigns, ordained ministers Revs. Sarah Trone Garriott, Lindsay James and Freddie Haynes III are running in competitive congressional races in Iowa and Texas, @jackmjenkins reports: https://t.co/tnsml9aE5G
