As yet another preemptive war is begun in the Middle East, John Quincy Adam’s words of wisdom still ring true:
“Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.”
Like most Americans I have sympathy for the plight of the Iranian people and all subjected people around the globe, from North Korea to Tibet.
But as Adam’s wrote, America: “goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.
She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.
She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.”
The Constitution conferred the power to declare or initiate war to Congress for a reason, to make war less likely.
Madison wrote that “the Executive Branch is the branch most prone to war, therefore, the Constitution, with studied care, delegated the war power to the legislature.”
As with all war, my first and purest instinct is wish Americans soldiers safety and success in their mission.
But my oath of office is to the Constitution, so with studied care, I must oppose another Presidential war.
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.): “The Senate should immediately return to session and vote on my War Powers Resolution to block the use of U.S. forces in hostilities against Iran. Every single Senator needs to go on the record about this dangerous, unnecessary, and idiotic action.”
The fact that Congress is voting next week on a war that is already - despite a massive buildup for weeks - tells you everything about how broken our system is.
Tax cut for the superrich, war in the Middle East, bad economy, wild corruption, now the only thing Trump needs to repeat Bush entirely is a financial crisis.
A declared regime change war of choice for "freedom" of the Iranian people. A regional war in a matter of hours. American lives at risk. A massive depletion of military stockpiles on behalf of Israel
Most importantly: The most profound campaign betrayal in modern US history
I am opposed to this War.
This is not “America First.”
When Congress reconvenes, I will work with @RepRoKhanna to force a Congressional vote on war with Iran.
The Constitution requires a vote, and your Representative needs to be on record as opposing or supporting this war.
The lesson of the GWOT should have been about foreign policy and unintended consequences.
Instead, we’re told the real lesson is that we can do whatever we want — so long as there are no “boots on the ground.”
This is so crazy. I know it was telegraphed for weeks and I expected this to happen but I’m just blown away that Trump actually did it. He betrayed his country and humanity.
Trump has launched an illegal regime change war in Iran with American lives at risk. Congress must convene on Monday to vote on @RepThomasMassie & my WPR to stop this. Every member of Congress should go on record this weekend on how they will vote.
The last few years are like the roaring 20s. A plague (Spanish flu vs Covid), end of a grand ideological journey (WWI vs neolib/wokism), tariffs, anti-immigrant, Wall Street on top, social divide (alcohol vs. Israel). The KKK/MAGA are both get rich quick schemes. Dems feeble.
i am so sick and tired of using the teams salute emoji, it does not accurately reflect how locked in i actually am. he is NOT locked in. stupid fucking idiot.
