Días antes de la final se difundió un video en el que Torres habla de la importancia de Dios en su vida. “Tengo la cruz y una Virgen, al final creo que es algo que me da mucho apoyo, tener muchísima fe y para mí es algo muy importante”, comenta el delantero español que fue premiado como el jugador de la final.

Torres destaca por su fe católica en el seleccionado español junto al entrenador, Luis de la Fuente, que en la conferencia previa a la semifinal, en la que venció a Francia por 2 a 0, dijo que reza "todos los días, pero no porque estoy en un mundial ni pretendo sacar un resultado".

"Yo le doy gracias todos los días, cada día que me levanto de que estoy bien, me miro y digo: Otro día más que puedo disfrutar de la vida. Yo doy gracias por esos detalles. Rezo porque rezo todos los días, no para que me ayude más", detalló entonces el director técnico español.
